“LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF” ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE

The staff of Beit Midrash “Birkat Shalom” are engaged day and night teaching about love, unity and acceptance of others. Rabbi Gottlieb, who heads the Beit Midrash, has been teaching for more than 40 years the inner aspects of Torah according to the teachings of our holy Rabbis the Baal HaSulam ztz”l and his son Rabbi Baruch Shalom HaLevi Ashlag ztz”l.

The Talmud Torah was established by Rabbi Gottlieb’s community and students who are learning and living the inner aspect of Torah and are raising their children in the path of loving others.

HIGH EDUCATIONAL LEVEL WITHOUT EMOTIONAL STRESS

It is important for us to give our children all the wisdom and knowledge they need at the highest possible level. At the same time, we understand that we learn through experience and that effective learning bears fruit in a supportive, respectful, enabling environment that focuses on the uniqueness of each child and works hard on the relationships between the children. The educational aspect of the Talmud Torah is based on the “Remember” method developed by Rabbi Moshe Klatzkin.

INNER SPIRITUAL LEARNING

We strive to bring the children close to God through learning about faith and having love for others. We learn the way of the Baal HaSulam, an inner way that develops our self awareness and encourages us to feel the pleasure of life within ourselves. Children educated in an inner way learn to recognize their negative tendencies and learn how to channel them in a positive way. At the same time they learn to recognize their positive tendencies and learn how to grow and develop them. We come with awareness that the work is to bring out the potential already inside of everyone and develop it.

The culmination of inner learning is truly loving others and having love, faith and respect for God in a direct way — a real connection of communication, thoughts and feelings.

Mothers recommendations

The Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah provides the children with Torah learning at a high level, at a good pace, in a pleasant atmosphere without pressure. Before the "Birkat Shalom" Talmud Torah opened, one of my children attended a well-established Talmud Torah with a good reputation. But every day, my son returned home upset. He couldn’t learn, his grades were failing, and we had to deal with complaints and frustration on a daily basis. We knew that he was a smart kid, but no matter how hard we tried to help him, by sitting and studying with him, he could not make progress. Gradually, he lost faith in his ability to learn and succeed.
When the Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah opened, my son began to flourish. He went to school happily and eagerly, he looked forward to his classes, and he began to experience success, even achieving very high grades. Over time, he regained his confidence in his ability to learn and to succeed, and his whole perception of himself changed. During the period of the festivals, the teacher taught the kids how to work out a calendar according to the Hebrew months—a task that includes a variety of skills: geography, mathematical calculations, Torah principles, and much more. Our son prepared the calendar himself with such enthusiasm that he wanted to study in the Talmud Torah even during the holidays! Today, three of our sons are studying at the Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah. We thank God our sons have the opportunity to learn in such a special environment: an environment that sees the soul of each individual child and his needs, giving him upright principles both from an educational perspective and from a Torah perspective, as well as inculcating positive social values in the children.

The Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah is extraordinary in the way it teaches the importance of Torah study and mitzvot through the knowledge of the true essence of the human being, putting emphasis on our connection with our fellow and with HaShem. The children who attend the Talmud Torah receive support from the entire community and enjoy loving individual attention on all levels. The child sees the Talmud Torah as a living community, not just as a place to come and learn. When the children meet every morning their joy is palpable— even after school hours they want to be together.

The Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah adheres to the principle, "Educate a child according to his own way." Therefore, when a child behaves badly, the teacher knows how to set appropriate boundaries and teach the child to respect them. But when the child needs emotional attention, the teacher recognizes that and gives lots of warmth and love. For a child who needs more academic reinforcement, the teacher works with endless encouragement and patience to help him progress. The children come home happy with sparkling eyes. They love the Talmud Torah and their Melamed, (school room teacher) and they especially love their friends. The connection between the children of Talmud Torah is very special, and every child feels that his classmates are like brothers. All the Talmud Torah staff love the kids in the classroom, and we, as parents. Can feel this in the home.

The Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah is really a unique Talmud Torah. What is special is its emphasis on the study of the inner aspects of Torah. The children learn how the stories of the Torah affect each of us personally, they are taught to put emphasis on loving each other, and on the love of HaShem and they are taught the reasons why we practice the mitzvot. The level of education in the Talmud Torah is high, and in addition, the children enjoy fun and enriching activities, games to enhance social interaction, and nature walks. The children go to school very happily every morning.

My son is studying at the Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah, and I can warmly recommend it! At the Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah the children study eagerly and are happy. They enjoy close friendships. They have a warm relationship with the teacher, who is in continuous contact with the parents. The Talmud Torah gives the children enrichment classes of gymnastics, carpentry, and walks in nature.
I give thanks to HaShem that my son has the privilege of learning in such a wonderful Talmud Torah and recommend it to every parent who wants his son to go to school happily to an environment which will allow him to progress in his studies and in his personal midot.
The children learn to look closely into their studies of Torah, to gain insights into their own behavior, and are encouraged to adopt good manners and good principles.
Before my son attended the Birkat Shalom Talmud Torah he attended another Talmud Torah where he was unhappy. He didn’t want to go to school despite all our attempts to persuade him. We searched for a Talmud Torah he would like, and I am so happy we found this one!
Today he gets up happily and won’t miss a day of learning. Once we had planned a family outing, because we had forgotten it was a school day, but he preferred to go to school rather than on the outing! From the perspective of his studies, his attitude has changed 180 degrees. Now he is no longer a child who couldn’t learn, but one who can’t wait to answer questions, even though the standard of learning, in both quality and quantity, is very high. He feels confident and happy to share with us what he has learned. Often in the afternoon he will work on his maths independently. I am so grateful to HaShem that my son learn in such a wonderful Tal mud Torah and can certainly recommend it warmly to any parent who wants to see his or her child progress in their studies and Torah values.
